VLT is the percentage of visible light a film lets through, so a lower number means darker glass. Drag the slider or pick a preset and the view through the windshield changes with it — along with heat rejection, glare cut, and whether that shade is legal on Utah front side windows.

VLT stands for visible light transmission. A 35% film transmits 35% of visible light and blocks the rest, so lower numbers are darker. Factory glass is not clear either — most side windows start around 70–80% VLT before any film goes on, which is why a "70% film" looks almost invisible.
Heat rejected is total solar energy rejected, and it is the number people misjudge most. Heat lives mostly in the infrared band, and rejecting infrared is a property of the film's ceramic particles, not its darkness. That is why a legal 35% ceramic film routinely rejects more heat than an illegal 20% dyed film. The simulator uses our measured figures for nano-ceramic film at each shade.
UV blocked sits at 99% across every shade we install, including the near-clear 70% used on windshields. UV is what fades a dashboard and ages skin on the driver's arm, and blocking it does not require a dark film at all.
Glare cut tracks darkness closely, because glare is visible light. This is the number that matters on an east-west commute at sunrise, and it is the honest argument for going darker on rear glass than on the front.
Under Utah Code 41-6a-1635, front side windows must transmit at least 35% of light, and an officer's meter allows a 5% variance. Windshields need 70% or more across the full face, with darker film permitted only above the AS-1 line or the top four inches. Everything behind the driver — rear side windows and the rear window — can be any darkness, though dual side mirrors are required if the rear glass is tinted. Metallic and mirrored finishes are not allowed on any window.
The simulator turns its legality box red the moment you drop below 35%, because that is the line that gets people cited. A very common order here is 35% ceramic on the front doors to stay legal, 20% or 5% behind the driver to match privacy glass, and a 70% ceramic windshield that does most of the heat work without changing how the car looks. It renders one scene in one light. Real glass has its own tint, curvature, and thickness; a black interior reads darker than a light one; and film looks different at dusk than at noon. It also cannot show optical clarity, which is the real gap between cheap film and good film — dyed film hazes and eventually goes purple, ceramic stays optically clean for the life of the car. If you are deciding between two shades, come by and look through sample glass in daylight. It takes five minutes and settles it.
Tint questions
Front side windows must let through at least 35% of visible light, with a 5% variance allowed for meter calibration. Rear side windows and the back glass have no darkness limit as long as you have both side mirrors. The full face of the windshield must stay at 70% or clearer, with any darkness allowed above the AS-1 line.

Three days in summer, up to a week in winter. The mounting adhesive needs to release its moisture, and rolling a window down early can slide the film. Small water pockets and a slight haze during that window are normal and clear on their own.
Not with the films we install. Older metallised films used a sputtered metal layer that blocked signal. Nano-ceramic film rejects heat with non-conductive particles, so cell, GPS, keyless entry, and radar detectors all pass through untouched.
Yes, with a clear or near-clear 70% ceramic that is legal across the full face. It is one of the best value upgrades on the car — the windshield is your largest piece of glass and it is what cooks your hands and dashboard.
That is water in the adhesive, not a defect. It looks like faint milkiness or small pockets and it disappears as the film cures. If anything is still visible after a week in warm weather, bring it back and we will look at it.
Patterns are plotted from a database against your exact year, make, and model and cut on a machine. No blade goes near your glass, your defroster lines, or your door seals. Rear glass is then heat-shrunk to the contour before it goes in.
