Paint protection film
Rock chipsstop here.
Self-healing urethane over the panels that actually take hits. Wrapped edges, no visible film line, and a 10-year manufacturer warranty against yellowing and lifting.
Why film
Canyon miles
I-15 gravel, Little Cottonwood in the winter, and a summer of construction zones. A rock chip is a permanent repaint on a hood — film is the only thing that physically stops one.

How it runs
Slow, clean,
Decontaminate
Wash, iron removal, clay, and a solvent wipe. Film traps whatever is under it, permanently.
Correct
Any swirls we can safely polish out get polished out first. Film magnifies what is underneath.
Plot and apply
Patterns are cut for your exact panels, then applied wet in a filtered bay with edges wrapped.
Cure and inspect
Film sits overnight so moisture clears. Second tech checks every edge under LED before handoff.
Film or coating
Most owners
Paint protection film and ceramic coating get compared as if you have to choose. You do not, and the reason is that they solve unrelated problems.
Film is physical thickness — roughly eight thousandths of an inch of urethane that absorbs a rock strike so your clear coat never sees it. Coating is chemistry, a few microns thick, which does nothing against impact but stops acid rain, bug guts, hard water, and road salt from etching paint, and makes the whole car easier to wash.
The standard build here is film across the impact zones on the front end and a coating over the entire vehicle, including on top of the film. That combination gives you chip protection where chips happen and chemical protection everywhere else, and it is priced as one job when booked together.
PPF questions
Before you
Is paint protection film visible?
On a clean install you have to look for it. Edges are wrapped around the panel where the panel allows, so there is no line sitting in the middle of the paint collecting dirt. Where an edge has to be visible, it is placed on a body line where the eye already expects a break.
What does self-healing actually mean?
The top coat of the urethane is elastomeric, so light swirl marks and wash scratches close up with heat — sun on the panel, warm water, or a heat gun. It does not repair a cut that goes through the film or a rock strike that pierced it.
How much coverage do I need?
Rock chips come from the road, so the front bumper, the leading edge of the hood, the mirrors, and the headlights matter most. Full front adds the entire hood and both fenders and is the most common choice. Track pack adds rockers, A-pillars, and the roof leading edge for people who drive fast on open highway.
How long does the film last?
Ten years is the manufacturer warranty term on the films we install, and that covers yellowing, cracking, and delamination. Real-world life on a garaged car is longer. Utah sun and winter road salt are hard on everything, which is why we still recommend a coating over the film.
Can film go over a wrap?
Yes, and it is a good idea on the front end of a colour change, because vinyl chips more easily than paint. It is quoted per vehicle because the vinyl has to be fully cured and the edges have to be planned so the film does not lift the wrap when it comes off.
Does film damage paint when removed?
Not on factory paint in good condition, removed with heat by someone who has done it before. Repainted panels are a different conversation — cheap respray work can lift, so we inspect and tell you honestly before we quote.
Film or ceramic coating?
They solve different problems. Film is physical thickness that stops a rock from reaching the paint. Coating is chemistry that stops etching and makes washing faster. Most owners who care about the car run film on the front end and coating over everything, including on top of the film.
How soon can I wash it?
Wait seven days before a proper wash and skip pressure washing the edges for the first month. Any small moisture haze under the film clears as the adhesive cures. After that, wash it like paint.
